Image quality - how Megapixels and horsepower relate.
When discussing fast cars, one distinct feature dominates: horsepower. However, without a proper chassis, suspension, tires and tire pressure a car can not transfer all its available power to the road. Horsepower therefore can be defined as potential speed. It depends on the rest of the features of the car (and the driver not to forget) whether all the power will be transferred to maximize speed.Similar to this, when discussing image quality, people often refer to the amount of Megapixels that a camera system has. Resolution is defined by the ratio of pixels in proportion to image size, but is not the only important factor of image quality. The question is how much information is stored in every pixel. In a similar way, as with horsepower, Megapixels can be defined as potential resolution. It depends on the rest of the camera system and settings (and operator) whether a maximum image quality can be achieved. It depends on sensor, sensor type and sensor size, resolution, lens, file type, light conditions and camera settings.
